In this lab, sixth grade science students practiced using various measurements by combining colorful liquids into graduated cylinders and beakers. This lab's purpose was to introduce and practice using the graduated cylinder. The materials that they were provided with were the three primary colors: blue, red, and yellow. They then proceeded to mix selected liquids together to make another color. For example, they would mix the blue and yellow liquids together to make green. They repeated this process until they made numerous colors such as purple and orange.
The slideshow of pictures above (click the arrows on the right and left to view pictures) show the students measuring specific amounts of the different primary colors to mix. They would then combine the two liquids together to make a new color. The final product of this lab was to create an array of colors representing a rainbow.
