Escape Room

Updated: Mar 4, 2020

On February 27, 6th grade science students participated in an escape room activity held in the Library Media Center. The class was separated into four groups and were tasked with gathering clues with the end goal of unlocking a suitcase with five locks. Each group represented a different body system: Digestive, Circulatory, Respiratory, and Integumentary. The groups first worked on their own but then needed to work together to solve the final lock on the suitcase.

Each group worked on two puzzles: one that gave them the combo to their lock on the lockbox, and the other was the word search. When they had finished the word search, they were given a UV flashlight, so they could reveal, on the word search paper, a one-digit number and the position this number was in for the 5th lock (4 digit lock).

There were various clues the students had to solve including finding a clue inside a specific book, solving a puzzle box, constructing a page from torn up pieces of paper, completing the word search, and using a UV light to find a hidden message. Once all four groups were able to complete all their clues and found their hidden message with the UV light, they needed to put all four messages together in order to solve the final lock on the suitcase.

Once the students were able to fully unlock the suitcase, they were rewarded with a certificate of completion. This certificate was able to be used as extra credit for the class period who finished the escape room the fastest.

Through this activity, students were able to participate in a fun, strategic game and learned about the various body systems. They were able to understand that each system has its own task but they also need to work together in order to keep the human body functioning efficiently.
